DE SINGEL
Antwerp 2025

In early 2025, Helena Basilova and Aart Strootman performed live in 4DSOUND at DE SINGEL. During this residency, 4DSOUND transformed the hall into a spatial sound theatre. Through 48 of their trusted omnidirectional speakers, sound encompassed the black room. Helena Basilova played in homage to Ryuichi Sakamoto (1952-2023) whose music floats between 80's synth, electro-pop and (neo) classical. Aart Strootman, addressed another legend, Aphex Twin, arranging 'Selected Ambient Works' for guitar and piecing it with Erik Satie's dreamy chords. The performing artists presented work prepared in residency at the Amsterdam 4DSOUND studio. Spatial sound engineers Roman Willems and Joris Takken followed the artists in their spatial exploration and live performances.

Poul Holleman and Aart Strootman opened the programme with the Masterclass 'Play the Space as an Instrument', presenting and extensively demonstrating the latest features and possibilities surrounding the 4DSOUND system. If you'd like to host a 4DSOUND masterclass please reach out to poul@4dsound.net.

For both nights, Nick Verstand and Wes Broersen worked in close collaboration with the artists to create the lighting design and respond to the spatial sound atmospheres.
